We live Steamboat. We LOVE Steamboat.

Must Do’s for a Fall Weekend in Steamboat

Ahhh, fall….it’s one of the best times of the year, especially in the Rocky Mountains. The summer crowds dissipate, the air gets a little cooler and the leaves turn beautiful shades of red, gold and yellow. If you’re visiting Steamboat in the fall, you’re on the right track! Here are a few things to do during your fall weekend in Steamboat.

Bike + Hike

Head up Buffalo Pass for some top-notch mountain bike trails. The trail called Flash of Gold especially lives up to its name every fall as the aspens turn bright yellow. But really, you can’t go wrong no matter where you go. Choose a biking or hiking trail that’s right for you and your group and be prepared to be in awe of those amazing fall colors.

Grab a Seasonal Ale

Steamboat is home to several local breweries, most of which add an autumn ale or two to their menu each September. Post up at Mountain Tap Brewery to try one or head out to the west side of town and grab a seat on the patio at Storm Peak Brewing Company.

Eat Seasonally, Too!

While you’re at it, indulge in something pumpkin! Many menus add fresh, seasonal fare each fall. Yampa Valley Kitchen always uses local ingredients when they can so you know you’re getting the best of the best.

Stroll Main Street

Grab a pumpkin latte (we recommend Mountain Brew, located right at the start of downtown Steamboat on Oak St. and 4th) and stroll up and down Lincoln Avenue. You can pop into one of local boutiques to pick up some new items for your fall wardrobe, or duck in and out of the many galleries that line the main street of town.

Take a Drive

Take a drive out to the smaller, lesser-populated Pearl Lake in North Routt. You’ll be treated to beautiful colors on the way and when you arrive, you may even have most of the lake to yourselves! Take a picnic or a paddleboard and spend the afternoon lounging lakeside.

Wake Up Early for a Hot Air Balloon Ride

Steamboat is home to Wild West Balloon Adventures, a popular tourist activity in the summer…but in the fall, you’ll get to admire the fall colors from above and it might even be easier to snag a reservation.
