Our BRAND NEW Bodyworks (the digital edition!) just launched today, and this month, our theme is “staying active all winter long.” In Steamboat, we live in a great place to do this – so we asked several locals what their favorite winter activity is and got answers ranging from skinning to snowmobiling. (Some even shared their favorite trails!)

What’s Your Favorite Winter Activity?
“Living in Ski Town USA, I’d say my favorite winter activity would have to be skiing, in all of its various forms. I love skate skiing and cross country skiing early season on Rabbit Ears Pass (Bruce’s Trail offers the earliest skate skiing in the country – this year in mid-October); touring the backcountry in North Routt, Buffalo Pass, off the ski area and even behind our house in Fairview on Emerald Mountain…and of course, skiing and snowboarding the mountain and hitting all my favorite tree stashes. If it gets skied out (which happens quickly in these days of the Ikon Pass), sometimes I’ll even bring my skins to tour off the top.” – Eugene Buchanan
“One of my favorites is fly fishing the Yampa River at the tailwaters of the Stagecoach Resevoir. The river here stays open all winter because of the ‘warm’ water being released from the reservoir. While it is a popular spot to fish at other times of the year, the winter is a unique time to find yourself fishing with just one or two other anglers. The CPW closes the road to the tailwaters in the winter so snowshoeing, skiing or snowmobiling are your only options.” – Alice Tesar
