Your Guide to Christmas Vacation in Steamboat

Welcome to Steamboat! It’s one of the busiest times of year for us locals and we want to help our visitors have fun, explore and feel right at home in our valley. So! We put together a guide for anyone here on Christmas vacation this year. AND, did you know that you can save big with our Visitors Coupon Book and Happy Hour Guide? Grab a copy (at any gas station, select retailers, hotels, visitors rack downtown, etc.) and find all of these deals and way more. Let’s get started! Most importantly….

Where to Ski

Steamboat has not one but two ski hills: Mount Werner, the main mountain with tons of trails for every age and level or Howelsen Hill which is North America’s oldest operating ski area. Sundays are free at Howelsen (December 22, December 29 and January 5) – just grab your free lift ticket to access the lift and trails. If you miss Sunday, check the coupon book for a 2 for 1 day pass to Howelsen.

Where to Have Happy Hour

It’s not a ski vacation without happy hour, so try:

  • Aurum – daily happy hour from 4:30-6 pm with ½ priced appetizers (nachos! Latin street tacos! Crispy curried cauliflower!), plus $3 drafts and $5 wines
  • Back Door Grill – daily happy hour from 4-6 pm (and during any NFL game!) for a $6 classic cheeseburger and a $3.50 draft beer.
  • O’Neil’s Tavern and Grill – daily happy hour in the bar from 4-5:30 pm for their killer mac and cheese and Shepard’s pie. And maybe a car bomb if you’re feeling adventurous?!

Where to Eat

Steamboat has a wide range of restaurants for all ages and tastes. Try…

  • 8th Street Steakhouse for a free cocktail with the purchase of any entrée.
  • How Ya Doin Pizza n Eatz – perfect for family dinner when you don’t want to cook – buy two pizzas, get the third free
  • La Fiesta Grill & Cantina – buy one entrée and get a second at half price! And their margaritas aren’t bad either!

Where to Shop

Didn’t quite get what you want for Christmas? Cruise down Lincoln Ave and check out our local stores. Our visitors book has shopping deals as well, like:
